"You don't stop dancing from growing old, you grow old from stopping to dance."  --Unknown

Recently, my beautiful sister-in-law Tatiana shared this wonderful quote with me and I loved it.  So, I in turn, wanted to share it with you all.  To me, it truly speaks to what I believe to be fundamentally true about aging.  Our real age is not something that we should ever be ashamed of or try to hide, it is something that I feel we should each be proud of.  Every year that is added to our lives is something to rejoice about and marvel at.  We used to do this-  remember being a kid and always wanting to be older.  Wasn't the oldest kid usually considered the coolest?  My theory is that this fascination with age lasts usually up until around the time when you turn 25 (a quarter of a century old!).  This is when people usually start freaking out about their age and from here on as the years pass by, people become progressively embarrassed to tell their true age.

I'd like to challenge you to rethink this fear of stating your age.  Growing old has nothing to do with age.  "Growing old" to me is not the same as getting older by the calendar years.  I know plenty of 40-50 year olds that come to my classes that are more youthful than some 20 year olds.  As far as I'm concerned you can be young at any age.  The majority of being young is feeling young.  For me, some hair dye, some strategically-applied make-up and some stylish clothes that fit well play a big part in helping me to feel young, but this only gets me half way there.  You have to feel great in your body in order to feel young, and my favorite way to do that is- DANCE!!!!!  If you are feeling me, read on below...

Here's what's up this month:

GROWING YOUNG:  If you are ready to celebrate your age and at the same time proclaim your youth, drop me a line.  Send your comments to me at angie@queencitydancingqueen.com. Include your name, age and in 15 words or less, state how you feel about yourself right now at this point in your life. You can also send a picture if you want.  All entries will be featured on my website, and you will be entered in a drawing to win a FREE CLASS.  All entries must be received by March 31 to be eligible for the drawing. I've already got us started- Check it out!

1. AMERICA'S BEST DANCE CREW: I just discovered this show on MTV.  It comes on Thursday's at 10 pm, and the dancing is HOT!!!  This will help tide me over until So You Think You Can Dance starts :0)  Check it out on Thursday nights and let me know whatcha think.

2. TUESDAY CLASS UPDATE:  I had mentioned the possibility of starting a DanceOut! class in Gastonia on Tuesdays.  I am still looking into this, but have run into some road blocks.  I've looked into a few sites, but no one seems to have the Tuesday evening time slot available.  If you know of a large space that might be free on Tuesday evenings... let me know.

3. DANCEOUT! Party... Let's Do It Again: The DanceOut! Party on Feb. 22 was a huge success, and we had so much fun that you asked for another one ASAP!!!.  SO, YOU GOT IT!  The date for the next DanceOut! is Saturday, April 12 from 7pm-9pm.  It will be held at the Adult Rec Center again, and yes, there will be another TOP 10 countdown....Start spreading the word! By the way, if you are interested in the names and artists of the songs that we did for the first time at the DanceOut! be sure to drop me a line.

4. ZUMBA JUNKIES!!!  Congrats to Lily B, Charlotte P, and Carrie B for being the first Junkies to attend 20 classes with me.  They each received 2 FREE classes.  If you are attending 2 or more classes/week with me, then you might be a Junkie too.  Ask me about it in the next class if you are interested.

5. YOUR REQUESTS PLEASE...I love to get your requests for songs that you want to hear, so keep 'em coming.  It makes me feel like a DJ... tee hee...  Anyway, don't be shy to let your requests be known.  You can shout them out in class, or write them down for me before class (or send me an email) if you would like to be more anonymous. Either way, you don't have to know the name of the song... If you can tell me a couple lyrics that you remember or a move from the song that you remember, I can usually figure it out.

So, that's all for now my beloved young ones!!!  I hope that February has been a wonderful month for all of you!   I'm excited that Spring is on the way and with it will come beautiful Redbud, Dogwood and Cherry blossoms, warmer weather, and light after class!!!  I look forward to dancin' into the spring with all of you!

As always, please contact me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions.  I hope to see you in class very soon!!

Love,

Angie
